Everything about the 7th mobile eye care mission

"The “See the Victory” charitable foundation, together with doctors from the private ophthalmology medical centers “Novyi Zir” and “Eximer," went to Kharkiv region to visit the 3rd Separate Assault Brigade.

The ophthalmology missions are our way of highlighting the issue of eye health care, which is not a topic that is widely known to the public. Often, even the military is not very concerned about it. However, our statistics show that only 5 out of about 300 people in the unit have no complaints about their eyes. All the rest need professional help.

Thanks to our activities during the seventh mobile ophthalmic aid mission:

  • 215 soldiers underwent a thorough eye examination;

  • 50 pairs of glasses for vision correction were issued;

  • 109 vials of eye drops for treatment were delivered;

  • For 7 days, medics worked more than 14 hours a day to help everyone who needed it.

The results of the examinations showed us that the commanders of the 3rd Assault Brigade are responsible for the health of their personnel. The militaries highly appreciate the attention to their health, especially in such difficult conditions.

The team of doctors keeps statistics on each visit. This time it is as follows:

  • about 10% of patients have eye problems caused by combat injuries;

  • The most common diagnoses are myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism.

One of the most complicated cases involves shrapnel that penetrated the eye's membrane and got stuck in the iris. Another millimeter and the soldier would have lost his sight.

There have been cases without luck: soldiers have partially lost their eyesight, although critical injuries could have been avoided if they had worn protective/tactical goggles at the time of injury.

More about the mission – in the video.

Each such mission is not only about helping but also about the valuable exchange of experience with those who risk their lives every day to ensure our safety. The team returned home with a sense of pride and inspiration that these brave people gave us.

By the condition of the personnel's eyes, we understand how much attention is given to the health of the military. We offer a solution for military units: our mobile ophthalmology service is free of charge, arrives as close as possible to the place where it is convenient to organize an examination, conducts thorough diagnostics, and provides medicines and glasses.
